Offertory Giving vs Capital Campaign

 

As we embark on the Growing With Grace capital campaign to expand our church, increase parking and enhance our campus facilities through our master plan a church, it is important to ensure that all of us understand the difference between offertory giving and capital campaign support.

 

Offertory

Annual Offertory supports the operating expenses—our annual budget.  This income ensures we can provide your essential programs and services. It includes the funding for ministries, staff salaries, and normal monthly bills (electric, water, phone, etc.). These types of expenses grow each year and it is necessary to increase the offertory every year. This giving normally happens weekly through envelopes or through online offertory giving.  It must continue through a capital campaign.

 

Capital Campaign

A Capital Campaign supports larger expenses—often restricted to physical plant and facilities— that come around once every 15, 20, 50 or even 100 years. These are one-time expenses that may not occur again for the foreseeable future. (These one-time expenses are often paid for by capital campaign pledges that span over 3-5 years). Building a Church or parish center, renovations to current facilities, major equipment purchases, and infrastructure overhauls would be included in a capital campaign.

Capital campaign money is used for long-term needs. A capital campaign is necessary when a parish is ready to make a leap to the next level, as we are now ready.

Prayerful Discernment

As you consider your decision for our Growing With Grace Faith capital campaign, please know that both are important and our offertory cannot decrease for gifts to the capital campaign. We cannot continue to serve each other nor create a better future at St. Ann without all the parishioners being involved, invested and engaged in the parish.
