About the Sacraments

There are seven sacraments of the Catholic Church:

The life and works of Jesus form the heart of what He continues to share with us through the Sacraments, celebrated by the Church’s ministers. In each Sacrament, God pours out His grace and invites us to share in His holiness, so that we, in turn, can bring that holiness into the world.

Baptism

Baptism is the first of the seven Sacraments. It is the sacrament of spiritual rebirth through which a person is cleansed of original sin, becomes a child of God, and is incorporated into the Body of Christ, the Church.

Prior to scheduling your child's Baptism at Saint Ann, both parents and Godparents are required to complete a Baptismal preparation course and fill out attestation forms (please note: these forms must be signed in the presence of a priest, deacon, or pastoral minister). For those who did not receive Baptism as an infant or to schedule your child, please contact our Baptism & Sacramental Records Coordinator for more information.

Confirmation

Bishop Goes to Mass

Confirmation is the sacrament that strengthens and deepens the grace received at Baptism. Through Confirmation, a baptized person is sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, becoming more firmly united with Christ and more fully a member of the Church.

Preparation for Confirmation at Saint Ann is completed over two years in Faith Formation for youth (grades 9 & 10). Any one who is older than 16 but has not received their Confirmation should contact our Director of Religious Education.

Eucharist

Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life—the greatest of the Sacraments. In the Eucharist, Catholics believe that Jesus Christ is truly present—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—under the appearances of bread and wine.

Preparation for Fist Holy Communion at Saint Ann is completed in the 2nd grade as part of Faith Formation for children. Any one who is older than 9 but has not received their First Communion should contact our Director of Religious Education. Eucharist is present at every Mass at Saint Ann; Mass times can be found here.

Penance & Reconciliation

Penance and Reconciliation (also called Confession) is the way Christ offers forgiveness and healing to those who have sinned after Baptism. Through this sacrament, Catholics are reconciled with God, the Church, and themselves.

Any one who is older than 8 but has not received their First Penance & Reconciliation should contact our Director of Religious Education. Those who are in need of Confession can find available times here.

Anointing of the Sick

Matrimony

Bride and groom's hands

Matrimony (or Marriage) is the sacrament in which a man and a woman form a lifelong covenant of love and fidelity, reflecting the union of Christ and His Church. Through their vows, the couple becomes a visible sign of God’s love in the world.

Matrimony at Saint Ann must be scheduled at least six months in advance. To begin preparation, the couple must request a meeting with our Sacraments Coordinator; please include the name of the bride and groom and requested wedding date.

Holy Orders

Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission Jesus entrusted to His apostles continues in the Church today. It gives men the spiritual authority and grace to serve God’s people as deacons, priests, or bishops.

Those receiving Holy Orders at Saint Ann are supported by our community through their education and discernment period (and beyond!). If you are considering the priesthood, please schedule a meeting to speak with one of our priests by contacting our Pastor's Assistant.
