Safe Environment Team
In compliance with the Diocese of Raleigh and "Prevent Child Abuse, North Carolina," Father Scott McCue has
assembled the Safe Environment Team, The Guardian Angels, to assess The Catholic Community of Saint Ann, and
present Safe Environment initiatives. Because all human life is a precious gift from God, we must assure that
all persons, especially our young are treated with dignity, and respect in safe surroundings. Prevention of
abuse and neglect of our children is the foundation of the Safe Environment Program and constitutes its initial
focus. The Guardian Angels will strive to empower our parish by creating and fostering safe, healthy environments
for our children. We will design and implement awareness strategies for our parish. Most importantly, attention
directed to individuals who interact with our youth will be screened according to their level of ministry. As this
program develops it will also include but not limited to such strategies as education and training in effective
parenting, conflict resolution, prevention of harassment, bullying or violence in any form. More than simply
offering protection from danger, a safe environment within our context also reflects the reality that the church
itself is a sanctuary. Thus, everything we do as a church must reflect our commitment to respect life in all
situations by providing a secure sacred place for all those who come to us seeking an experience of the holy presence of God.
